Little “promo” image I threw together showcasing the button designs that will be available at our AC2012 table. If you’re going, be sure to stop by and check ‘em out!
Y’all might recall that Jet Set Radio graffiti contest that took place a few months back? Yeah, well here are my entries. Obviously I didn’t win, but that’s okay, because the two larger designs are now available as shirts and stickers! The smaller designs will be incorporated into another idea I have.
the extent of my artistic abilities right now
Possibly! If I have leftovers, I’ll definitely sell them online, but since I only got 50 of each it’s kind of doubtful. I’m kind of testing the waters with this batch, we’ll see where things go. I would like to start selling things from home more, but I’m not -QUITE- prepared to do that responsibly yet.
If all goes according to plan, you should be seeing these in tiny acrylic form on our dealer’s table at AC12 (tableE15 for future reference).
Mischief and Mayhem are 2” charms, Lapfox logo is 1.5”, they will come with cellphone straps n’ all that. :3
Color Splash by =squeedgemonster
Commission for Chronic who asked for something “fun and colorful.” And what’s more fun and colorful than rainbows? Now, if only rainbows actually worked this way…
Also I have a huge soft spot for anthro critters with hair covering their eyes. It’s the cutest thing, ‘specially on a pibble.
Commission for Toulin. Something a bit more chill, because I am a total hippie at heart and can’t draw crazy action scenes all the time. Herons are awesome, I see them around where I live all the time.

Welp, might as well reblog this here :D

Commission for Ozawk! Hell yeah, Egyptian vulture dragon lady!
Haha, I have like three commissions in progress right now, and I was DETERMINED to finish at least one tonight. Now it is 6am and zzz time for sleep.
Quick warm-up doodle for today. Nngh, sorry to contribute to the massive wave of fanart for this character, but she’s just stunning, okay? OKAYYY?
A little happy doodle-response to how this song made me feel.
I wish I could explain it better but… I guess all-in-all, it gave me a sense of peace that I have not felt for a long time. So, thanks Ren :3
HOLY SMOKES I did something traditional. Yeah, new markers, wanted to test ‘em on these guys!
Traditional art is… more work than I remember. This took forever-and-a-half, and I have SO MUCH to re-learn about using markers it’s not even funny.
Hard to believe it used to be my medium of choice!
Ah yes, can’t forget about those icon commissions. These were all super fun, thanks to anyone who got one.
PLEASSSE don’t ask when I’ll be open for them again, I really don’t know!
Memory. Bleghghegh quick vent art.
Little white flowers
Will never awaken you
Not where the black coach of
Sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought
Of ever returning you
Would they be angry
If I thought of joining you?
Someone asked how I draw sharks from the front. I rarely do it, but here’s some hastily scribbled out examples. In all honesty, sharks look kinda doofy from front-on, what with having such broad, flat heads. It’s already tricky to communicate “SHARK” while keeping the anthropomorphic qualities I like (which means “hairsharks”, bite me), and from this angle it’s hard to make them not look like dino-things.
I still need to practice (like seriously), but they key is keeping a flat head, low nostrils, wide mouth, and a broad snout. Widths and pointy-ness vary depending on which kind of shark they’re based on, so for example, Mayhem has the longest, pointiest face.
Also no, I didn’t “forget” Mischief’s ear fins, they’ve been AMPUTATED because I’ve just grown out the idea.
A’ight, so this morning there was a possible FINANCIAL DISASTER looming, so I thought a good, fast way to make some bucks would be a character design auction.
WELL fortunately, things got sorted out financially, but I thought maybe I should try the auction anyway. A shark babe seemed like a good idea, so I immediately got to sketching something up. But, uh, I took a shine to the color scheme, and as soon as I thought “Haha, she should be named Melancholy” IT WAS ALL OVER, MAN. TOO ATTACHED.
Ridiculously cutesy commission for Hank and Dovne.
Because underneath my hard exoskeleton lies a soft, squishy center completely comprised of peeps.
HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE IT. Was just s’posed to be a colored sketch, but then Hank had some bad shit go down, and he’s always been super generous towards me, so I spruced it up with some inks. E-yep.
Taking a few icon commissions! #wow #whoa First commission opening on tumblr!SLOTS ARE FULL UP! Thanks everyone!!
If interested, please e-mail SqueedgeMonsterArt[at]gmail[dot]com with 1-3 visual references, how many slots you want, and preferred expression(s). Thanks!

Dreamcast is pretty cool! Uh, let’s see… good games for it: Jet Grind Radio (dated by its sequel, but still worth playing), Ill Bleed, Power Stone, Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, Rez, Cosmic Smash, and House of the Dead 2/Typing of the Dead.
I get asked this a lot, and I’m going to be like, totally honest here. I can’t be assed. Seriously. I don’t know anything about screen resolutions and I don’t want to put the effort forth to crop/edit something that would look good as a desktop image. So SORRY, I AM LAZY.
Well… that’s what we’re trying to do. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as just moving there, though. Otherwise I’d already be all nice and settled in. Immigrating to another country is a process that requires patience.
They are supposed to look similar, although I try to have some variation in on the same idea. Think of them like… My Little Pony toys. I know that’s probably really weird, but FOR SOME REASON I like the idea of a bunch of similar characters with varying traits on the same basic idea, and I like them to somewhat match. Some might call that lazy or creepy or whatever, but for me it’s like “okay this is what a shark babe as drawn by Squeedge looks like.”
Also, I didn’t originally design Mayhem, so that might be why she stands out *shrug*
I think there’s enough differences between them, but I’m not going to list all the differences, because if people can’t see them then that means that either their not looking close enough or I failed to illustrate the characters properly.
1. No, I don’t have any videos. I’m actually not sure how to record myself drawing (HELLO, I AM VERY INEPT AT USING TECHNOLOGY) and I’m not sure how educational it would be, my process is really nothing remarkable or special. At the very least, the next time I work on something that’s more than an icon or bust, I’ll try to make sure I have each step saved as an image and will go over it step-by-step.
2. I’m defnitely routinely inspired by Ippei Gyoubu, Mike Mignola, Hideki Ishikawa, Jemma Salume, and Alessandro Barbucci on a weekly basis. I try not to DIRECTLy “copy” off an artist if I’m stuck, as that feels inorganic, but looking at a bunch of art I like can get the gears of inspiration turning. I’ve never done the influence map, but I keep thinking I should!
3. HERE’S DA TROOF: I don’t make enough to support an adult. Like, at all. A large chunk of my earnings goes towards travel expense, as it’s pretty critical to my mental well-being that I see Renard frequently. So honestly, I should do not feel comfortable giving advice on this kind of thing just yet. I’m still learning the ropes myself. All I can do is thank my lucky stars that I managed to build up a really awesome, supportive fanbase who like to buy my silly shirts and pay me for commissions.
Thinking up good poses can be tough. To get started, I try to imagine a pose, and what kind of movement it’ll have, then I start with building up a gesture, starting with sweeping lines and building up a body on top. If it’s particularly tricky, I’ll do a bunch of small thumbnails of the pose until something looks right.
If I have NO ideas for a pose, I poke through my references with something vague in mind, until I see a thing or two I like, and work off those images.
It was upon my request. Not only do I not want those kind of images affiliated with the “Squeedgemonster” name, but most of it was pretty badly drawn. Not to mention, I feel pretty “ugh” about it, because I drew it as a desperate teenager hungry for approval/attention, rather than doing it out of my own interests. So it all just left a bad taste in my mouth.
I guess “atheist” in the broadest sense of the term, as I don’t believe in a higher power or any deities. I have some vague “spiritual” beliefs, but I don’t know if they fall in line with anything that I could name, and it’s hard to describe. I guess above all, I AM A MAN OF SCIENCE.
Also I want a can full of tiny graboids :C
I do a lot of traveling, but it’s mostly back-and-forth from Washington to Canada. I’ve never traveled outside this continent, either, although some day I would LOVE to visit Japan.
I’ve mostly been around the states, but the only place worth really mentioning is probably California, specifically San Diego! Even though it was hot, it was a lot of fun. The San Diego Zoo is amazing, and I love the water front.
I’ve been following it from afar, but I have absolutely no excitement towards it. I’d love to be able to play it, if only to be able to really rip into it first-hand. From what I hear, it has some good things about it (atmosphere, weather, graphics, story), but yet again, it basically has nothing to do with Silent Hill. It is not a real Silent Hill game. The current developers do not know what they’re doing. I think they actually removed anything to do with the cult/mythos, and the monsters are terribly bland and uninspired. Not to mention, they changed the combat system AGAIN and failed miserably.
Also I might mention that the monsters drive an “evil” cop car. THE MONSTERS DRIVE A COP CAR. THEY ALSO HIRE A DJ, A REAL, NORMAL PERSON-DJ, TO SUMMON YOU OVER THE RADIO.
Questions people should stop asking:
1. Anything already answered in the FAQ. Epecially “what program/tablet do you use to draw with?”
and
2. Questions about Renard. Not about what I do with/for him (i.e. PSURG or lapfox album covers), questions about HIM that are totally irrelevant to me and should be directed towards Renard himself.
Oh, and obvious stuff like “U DRAW ME PICTUR?” and the like.
1. Right now I’m using a Cintiq 12WX that Renard got me for Christmas. Usually, I use the Intuos3 9x12, which was my first tablet. For artists new to tablets, I would actually recommend getting something older and used to start (that way if it’s not your thing you didn’t spend too much money, used tablets in good condition usually work fine), model matters mostly on personal preference. I really like Intuos3, a used small or medium would probably be great for anyone! You just need some patience adjusting to things.
2. After the gesture is down, is habit to start rendering the head, although I try to keep which parts I’m detailing EVEN so I don’t have this massively detailed head on a body made of squiggly lines. For the teeth? Use. references. Look at how teeth work and are set in the gum line. Draw a multitude of teeth and gums, try to figure out how you like to draw it best.
3. I have a hard time drawing when I’m uncomfortable in any way, especially concerning temperature. I like to be at room temperature, or, if it’s really cold I like to get snuggly warm in a big comfy hoodie with some warm coffee -w- But yeah, being too hot or too cold completely kills my motivation to draw.
4. I just use Photoshop for pixel-ing *shrug* I’m definitely not the person to be asking about that sort of thing, my pixel are is extremely mediocre. Although I do find it WAYYYY easier to sketch a sprite with the tablet, but PIXEL it with a mouse.
5. They’ve been about equally profitable for me, honestly. Start with where your most comfortable, or heck, do both! See what happens, work from there. Trial and error and all that, just don’t expect everyone to ALWAYS want to buy your shirts; it’s sometimes really hard to predict what will sell.
1. I just don’t post it. I like drawing it for personal enjoyment between myself and Renard, we are adults with adult FEELS, afterall. I don’t post it because I don’t enjoy the territory that comes with being a porn artist, and it’s not something I want to be known for. I don’t mean that in a “porn is bad and something to be ashamed of” way or something equally ridiculous like that —I am very supportive and in favor of sexual expression through art, all the power to the smut artists— it’s just that’s not where my goals lie as far as what I want to offer the art world.
2. Pros: Easy to use, supported by MANY different websites and in increasing amounts, keeps records of transactions, versatile, and… is just overall convenient for buying anything on the internet. Cons: disputes can only be opened within 40 days of the transaction, and there’s a possibility your account could be frozen for a misunderstanding as “suspicious activity.” Also I think they’re going to start making you file taxes for your paypal earnings, iirc.
3. OH JEEZ this is really tough! I can’t narrow it down to one, so here’s a few: suchomimus, dilophosaurus, ceratosaurus, cryolophosaurus, allosaurus, ornitholestes, masiakasaurus, guanlong, styracosaurus, and megolosaurus. WHAT I AM SO NO BIASED TOWARDS THEROPODS WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? I know I’m leaving out a ton that I love but fFFffFuuh TOO MANY COOL DINOS. Also reminder that’s -just- dinosaurs, not prehistoric reptiles, pterosaurs, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, or synapsids or anything like that. Then the list would be endlessly huge.
4. I’m really bad at this too. WHEN IN DOUBT, BABY NAMING WEBSITES. Or ganking names from video games or mythology heuhuhuhu
5. LMAO. Well, while I maintain that Renard makes beautiful drawings, I cannot make music to save my life. I have no sense of rythm and can’t even sing on-key. Also I don’t think I could ever hope to compose something remotely original. For example, when I was younger I thought I had this absolutely mind-blowingly AMAZING idea for a song, I just needed someone to compose it! I was SO IMPRESSED with my amazing song, I could hardly beleive I even came up with it before anyone else! …Cue a few months later and me realizing it was Darth Vader’s theme music.
I do sketch for myself, but not nearly often enough. I’m really trying to get back into the habit of it, when I sketched constantly my work was more fluid, and getting “warmed up” was about a thousand times easier. It also motivated me to draw my own ideas more. I try to sketch every day, although I could be more persistent with it.
My grades varied a lot, but I was never very “academic.” I got by fine, but I struggled a lot along the way. It was hard for me to retain information unless I was invested in it (for example, passed with flying colors in World History and English courses, had to take U.S. history twice), I was constantly switched around in different special ED classes (mainly for dyscalculia but early on for speech and dyslexia), and for a while I lived in the hills where the education was abysmal.
I do work besides Lapfox related things, and that, along with commissions and t-shirt/merch sales, make up my primary income.
I don’t study anywhere right now, although I am just dying to take some life drawing classes at the GAGE academy this Spring if I can.
1. Squeedge is an embarrassingly old nick name that I coined for myself in middle school. My group of friends and I all decided we should have our own “weird” nicknames, and “Squeedge” is what I came up with after writing a bunch of random words on a piece of paper. YEAH, EXCITING ORIGINS RIGHT HERE. Honestly, I’d go by something else if it weren’t for the fact that… I have no idea what else to go by at this point. Internet identity crisis over here, sup.
2. Didn’t mean to cap this but IT IS TOO LATE NOW. I guess the closest thing I made to a resolution is a promise to myself to work harder. Which, I have not fulfilled yet. Also I really want to take swimming lessons and go kayaking again.
3. Nope. I appreciate its innovation with the web comic format, and the crocodiles and salamanders are p much the cutest ever, but other than that not interested in the story.
4. Yes. Usually, it’s any kind of “worshipful” talk or behaviour, it’s pretty much the last way I wanted to be treated and makes me incredibly anxious. People think this is an acceptable way to treat someone they admire, but all it does is put them up on an unfair pedestal and in an awkward position. And sometimes there’s the “if you don’t do x thing for me I won’t be your fan anymore and I’ll hate you forever and tell everyone what a vile bitch you are” people. Most other times it’s people creepily obsessing over Renard and trying to like, vicariously stroke his dick through me. The worst, though, is the people who romanticize our relationship as ~THE BEST COUPLE EVER~ and oh man, don’t you two ever break up because I’ll kill myself. Uggggh. PROTIP: DO NOT DO THESE THINGS, THEY ARE VERY SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE
5. Hm, a wrist splint might help? Also, regarding the tablet: make sure the settings are suited to how you draw. For example, my settings are more firm because I am a bit on the shaky side, and tend to press HARD because lolwhatismotorcontrol. Also, getting clean lines is easier digitally if you zoom out to do anything long or sweeping. As far as real media goes, make sure you are comfortable and relaxed, and lock your wrist in place when you go to make a line, and keep your ARM steady; it’s much easier than keeping your wrist steady.
WOW. My queue completely broke or something, nothing posted and it’s all just… gone? GEE, THANKS TUMBLR OL’ BUDDY OL’ PAL.
Anyway, doing this. Again.
1. Ink settings be here.
2. No, I don’t smoke marijuana, especially not to aid in artistic endeavours. I’m not sure if I’m just hypersensitive to drugs or something, but pot tends to have the opposite effect on me. I get paranoid, anxious, extremely delusional (“THESE HANDS… THESE ARE NOT MY HANDS. OH GOD, THESE ARE NOT MY LEGS”), and on few occasions have hallucinated. Also my motor skills completely fly out the window. The ONE TIME I seriously tried to draw while high, I made this huge 15x24 pencil drawing, and thought it was going to be my masterpiece. When I woke up the next morning and looked at it, it had to be one of the most hilariously awful things I had drawn in years.
3. Shucks, thanks
4. USE REFERENCESSSSS. Seriously, that is the best thing I can tell you. Find visual references and try to break apart and understand what you’re looking at —how is the face structured, how do shapes overlap/interact when viewed at this angle, how do you best represent what you are seeing, and how can all this be applied to fantasy creatures like dragons?
5. Reptiles (specifically crocs/gators/gharials, snakes, and varanids), vultures, moray eels, sharks, hyenas, sphynx cats, bats, pigs, rhinos, orca whales, theropods and synapsids (extinct animals count okay), arthropods of every kind and creed, viper fish, UMMMMMM I LIKE A LOT OF ANIMALS HI
No, I’m just lazy. Really lazy, was almost too lazy to answer this! And busy with other stuff, namely art and regaining a semblance of a social life.
Probably my all-around favorite is Mayhem. WOW, WHO DIDN’T SEE THAT ONE COMING? But uh, I also really like drawing Jackal, Renard, and Darius.
So… I guess the ones he uses the most are my favorites har-de-harr.
My absolute FAVORITE EVER is Feraligatr, but I also like Nidoking, Rhydon, Venusaur, Charizard, Lapras, Scolipede, Krokorok, Garchomp, Luxray, Raikou, Gyarados, Dunsparce, Kangaskhan, Eelektross ajdhxgfkjsflg A MILLION OTHERS ;n;
